Some mileposts are worth mentioning and I think the ones with several zeroes fit the bill.
Last evening, Sunday December 16, I walked and quietly logged my 4000th measured mile, a feat I never would've thought possible when I began walking in earnest 5 years and 25 days ago. I think the day and date fitting... Sunday was the day of the week God gave me this second chance at life, and December 16 was Beethoven's birthday... I really like his music.
Yes, I'll readily admit that just going outside and getting started is a challenge many days, but thinking about, and maybe even fearing a possible return to the hospital is still a good motivator.
This past September I had my 5th year follow-up tests and consultation with my cardiologist and he confirmed that my heart is functioning well in spite of the permanent scarring that still shows up on all the scans. My cholesterol is way down, blood pressure is good and I'm off most medications.
His instruction: just keep doing whatever you're doing and come back in 18 months.
What's next?
I have no idea except one day at a time and one mile at a time.
